Sweet Valley High written by Francine Pascal is a book based around two tanned, blonde teenage twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield who enjoy life as teenagers. Jessica is the troublesome teen and Elizabeth the studios down to earth teenager. The two spend their time sharing experiences with friends from different social groups, learning about themselves along the way. The book is based upon the time of the pom pom years which began in the sixties, the first vinyl pom pom were made and this began the pom pom years.

The first editions of the Sweet Valley High series were published in 1983 written by a serious of ghost writers in the 90’s such as Katie Williams. Sweet Valley High was also a hit TV series, this didn’t compliment the book fully as the characters were sometimes over exaggerated. Such as Jessica’s character and often lose sight of storylines and plots of the books. The impact Sweet Valley had on its audience raised the expectations of the TV series and overall became a very successful book due to its revival in the 1999 modern version, books Sweet Valley Senior Year.
