For my A2 English Literature I was to study the drama Closer by Patrick Marber. The characters in the book are Anna, Larry, Alice and Dan. The text is one of my favourite books I have read so far as it deals with the themes of the complexity of love and relationships with the two couples. The author does not present the idealistic idea of love which conventionally seem to be optimistic, and therefore shatters the idea of love, presenting it as complex and ambiguous due to the characters emotions and attitudes towards each other.

Anna and Larry are in love and are married. Alice and Dan are also in love, however, Alice’s idea of love is not as simple to get, as her occupation is a stripper which is evident from the quote from the text ‘what do you want to be love is a big want’. Dan presents love through sexual desire. However, Larry is seen to have love for Alice as well as for Anna and Dan also has feelings for Anna. The text is very enjoyable to read and presents many themes and ideas of love. If you love reading why don’t you get hold of this text because I really thought the drama was fantastic to read and I bet you will to.
