As part of World Breastfeeding Week 1st-7th August 2011 a ‘Breastfeeding Welcome’ logo competition was launched, as Sandwell Primary Care Trust are setting up a Breastfeeding Welcome Scheme throughout Sandwell so that mothers will recognise that where they see the Breastfeeding Welcome logo they will know that they are welcome to breastfeed their babies in various public venues.

The competition is open to everyone and the winning entry will receive £50.00 worth of Love2shop vouchers to use in a variety of High Street shops.

Logo competition for schools, colleges or individuals
Breast milk is the only natural food designed for babies. It has many health benefits which includes protecting baby from infections and diseases. Not only that it is free, available whenever and wherever and is at the right temperature.

If you’re a mum with a baby, it is reassuring to find somewhere that you know you will be welcomed to breastfeed. Sandwell Primary Care Trust are launching a ‘Breastfeeding Welcome’ scheme throughout Sandwell so that mothers will recognise that where they see the ‘Breastfeeding Welcome’ sign they will know that they will be welcome to breastfeed their babies, for example in local cafes, restaurants, libraries and other public venues.

Things to consider:
- The target audience is primarily women from all ethnic backgrounds.
- As a rule of thumb, simple logos are usually more effective. Think Nike, Apple, NHS!
- Avoid the obvious – for example, a logo for a dentist does not have to feature a tooth.

What makes a good logo?
-
If it is simple and instantly recognisable.
- If it can be reproduced in different sizes and reproduced in colour or in black and white.
- Good logos work when you can understand the logo without text.
