Many teenagers are finding it difficult to survive during the recession at the current time. Nevertheless, it is still possible to travel abroad and at home on a budget. This article looks at the best destinations in England and abroad, as well as some useful money saving tips for people on a tight budget.

UK destinations

Birmingham
I would recommend visiting Birmingham city centre for a cheap day trip or weekend break. There are plenty of things to visit, like the many shopping centres and bars. Prices are also cheaper than visiting London. For example, a one day travel card is cheaper in Birmingham than its equivalent ticket in London.

Lake District
For people seeking a quieter holiday, I would advise visiting the Lake District or peak district. There are loads of things to do for all kinds of people. There are many castles and museums for people who like History. The Lake District also has plenty of outdoor activities like fishing, cycling and climbing for more adventure seeking types of people.

Destinations abroad

Prague
Anyone wanting a short weekend holiday on a budget I would advise visiting Prague. This is an old medieval town with plenty of charm situated in the Czech Republic, Eastern Europe. Again, there are many activities and interesting places to visit. Like the local castle for example. Ryanair offers cheap flights there from major UK airports. Also, the cost of living in Prague is cheaper because the euro currency is not used there. Instead, the Czech Koruna is used.

Turkey
Turkey is also an attractive place to visit as well.  Flights take around four hours from most UK airports. Again, there are many museums and attractions. Also the climate is fantastic; temperatures are fairly high throughout the year, making Turkey an attractive place to visit during the English winter. Cappadocia is just one of the many beatiful places to visit in Turkey (pictured below).

Money saving tips

Going on holiday can become very expensive, but there are some ways to save money. In order to save money, I would advise researching ticket/accommodation online for the cheapest deal. Shopping online can save a lot of money. For example, Virgin Trains offers some cheap advance tickets for train travel if you book online.

Furthermore, it can save a lot of money if you book tickets/accommodation as early as possible. For example, you can purchase very cheap train tickets online if you book a week in advance and can travel on one particular off peak train. I found an advance one way ticket from Birmingham to London on Virgin Trains costs from £6. Tickets brought from the station are around £50 for the same journey, so there are considerable savings to be made!
