The big day Written by Abu Syddek

It’s just weeks to go and things are really starting to move fast! It is estimated that an audience of 2.5 billion across the globe will be watching the Royal wedding ceremony. This is the wedding of the century – the two people, Prince William and Kate Middleton, will be our future King and Queen.

The wedding will be held in Westminster Abbey on Friday 29th April 2011 which has been declared a Bank Holiday. An official wedding coin has been unveiled to mark the ceremony. Prince William and Kate Middleton will be carried in a carriage away from Westminster Abbey as husband and wife. The open top 1902 State Landau was the same carriage used by Prince Charles and Diana when they married at St Paul’s Cathedral back in 1981.

The Royal couple were in Australia back in January of this year on official duty visiting Queensland City that was devastated by the floods. Among the 2,000 guests and onlookers gathered to see the prince was a 10 year old Australian flood victim, known by the name of Zander Locke. Zander was so impressed after Prince William shook his hand that he vowed never to wash his hand ever again! But later on he was even more elated to be invited to the Royal Wedding itself. Well, I shall have the best seat in the house and watch the proceedings from the comfort of my living room!

A queen in waiting  Written by Sheridan Powell

With the Royal Wedding approaching all attention has turned to the Royal couple and re-ignited the worlds interest to the British monarchy. On the day of the wedding, street parties have been organised to recreate the sense of occasion and fervour of previous weddings and jubilees. While the thought of these parties may seem old fashioned they are fun, quintessentially British and a great way to spend your day off.

While the details of the wedding have been a closely guarded secret, teasingly released one by one as the wedding approaches, the Royal couple have been thrust into the spotlight like never before. As with any wedding the person under the most scrutiny is the bride to be and none has been more so than Kate Middleton.

She found herself flung into the media circus when she became Prince William’s girlfriend in 2001 after meeting him at the University of St.Andrews. After a brief break up in 2007 the couple reconciled and have been seen together at many high profile events. It wasn’t until November 2010 though that “waity Katy” finally bagged her Prince and was presented with Diana’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring. Since then Kate has been the subject of much speculation, from her middle class lineage to her choice of outfit but only since the engagement has Kate relished her role in the public eye.

Kate has transformed her look from preppy student to something sophisticated glamourous,  suited to a future queen. As such Kate has received an abundance of press attention all eager to spot which on trend outfit she will be sporting next, turning her into a fashion sensation. The Burberry trench coat she wore on a visit to Belfast sold out within the day and her deep blue engagement dress sparked dozens of replicas all over the high street.

So far Kate has truly planted herself on the fashion map, supporting the best of British designers whilst still retaining her elegant and youthful charm. While her day to day outfits have been closely documented her soon to be revealed wedding dress has been kept closely under wraps. Names such as Alice Temperly, Vera Wang and Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen have all been hinted at as the designer of choice, but it appears the dress will remain a secret for a while longer.

The wedding will be held in Westminster Abbey on Friday 29th April 2011, and will be shown live on the BBC and ITV.
