Katy Perry has returned to the charts with her latest single ‘California Gurls’. The number one hit single, featuring Snoop Dogg, is the first single released from her second major-label album titled Teenage Dream.

California Gurls is the best-selling single of 2010 so far. The song is a response to the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys duet ‘Empire State Of Mind’, which celebrates their home New York. The singer says how perfect it would be to have a California anthem. “I can’t let the Beach Boys down. I can’t let Tupac down. I had the idea to put Snoop on — I thought he would be the cherry on top, and it would make me look cooler.”

After four weeks of radio play, ‘California Gurls’ catapulted to the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, making this the fastest-rising single for Capital Records in 40 years. It has broken the number of spins in one week at BDS and Mediabase Top 40 Airplay Chart. It has had more than 13,000 spins in one week. The single has also reached the number one spot her in the U.K.

Writers and producers on the new album include Dr Luke, Max Martin, Gregg Wells, Ryan Tedder, Dave Stewart and Perry herself. The title track ‘Teenage Dream’, featuring Flo Rida will be the second single. The album focuses on the whirlwind last year of her life, from storming to the tops of the charts, meeting her fiancé Russell Brand, to dealing with fame and fortune.

It has been reported the pair will marry in latex or maybe even naked in a ceremony in India or Thailand. The kooky couple have even admitted to starting some of the rumours themselves, one rumour even stating that they are already married.

They say that your life changes once you fall in love, and Russell recently commented that he and Katy influence each other’s dress sense as they are both keen to adapt each other styles. Russell states that he has started wearing more colours while she has started to go darker, and they are meeting each other half way.

Since Katy Perry exploded onto the music scene her style has been just as much admired as her voice. She redifined quirky in a way that gave it a “California Girl” edge.  Her clothes are wacky and colourful but always suit her figure, and more importantly still make her look glamourous – take note Lady Gaga and your frog outfit.

Her look is often 60′s inspired with her volminous raven locks and nude lip, which compliment her choice of vintage playsuits elegant red carpet gowns. She brings retro and combines it with futuristic to achieve her signature look. There is no doubt her recent engagement to comedian Russel Brand has brought out her inner rock goddess but she remains playful and daring in her fashion choices.
 
Katy dares to really experiment, testing out the latest trends and mixing them up with accesories like a bright blue wig or a cupcake clutch bag! Ok this might not be for everyone but she pushes the boundaries in an original way. More importantly she doesn’t take herself too seriously, she has fun and that makes her stand out from the crowd.
